See above the original 765's.. but see below, my 765's
So, how did I get into these then ?
The original 765's can be seen on the pictures above, which show generic images from the web. However, as you can see from the picture on the left, the Mission 765's can be recognised as an attractive floorstanding speaker - just under 1m high - having the approx footprint of a 12" LP in it's sleeve.
How I got them
After my years of fun and much pleasure with the 770's, and not really looking to upgrade, I went to a Hi-Fi show at the Penta Hotel in Heathrow and there in the Mission demo room was a superb looking pair of Loudspeakers - the 765's. I sat there for about 1hr listening to all sorts of music and of course, heard a lot of tracks I knew as I'd bought my own LP's. !
The clincher was "Luka" by Suzanne Vega.
I was really impressed. These seemed like a much more "grown up" sound - bigger in every sense and with none of the boom that the 770's could be guilty of with some material.
Once again, they sounded great in the midband, had a nice sweet treble but a more extended bass.
They looked nice, sounded good to me and so once again tempted to buy these new speakers. A quick walk around the show to make my mind up, and then I returned after a couple of hours to place these on order with AT Labs.
Living with them
Despite being 50litres cabinet volume, [quite sizeable boxes] they are not at all intrusive and my own speakers (shown immediately above) are in real walnut veneer which has been "fed" to keep them looking rich and lustrous. I cherish all my Hi-Fi kit and my speakers especially so.
Cabinets are unmarked.
Grills are unmarked and in perfect order.
They have been a most faithful servant and have performed faultlessly - despite all the Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, Yes, Sasha and Digweed, Ministry of Sound, Vangelis, Queen, Pink Floyd, Prefab Sprout, 70's, 80's Dance, 90's and beyond being thrown at them.
In short... great speakers. However, as time wore on, I decided to upgrade them further. To learn more about this process, follow this link
